These are results of our journey started in 2015 when we grafted seedling and targeted that we will harvest crop in 2019. Although the target set was very tough considering the the standards and history of fruit bearing in pears on seedling. But we took the challenge and tried to give a try with acquired knowledge and basic tricks for taking plants to fruiting by making fruit spurs. This is extremely sunny side without any irrigation avaaiblity. We took the advantage of sun light availability to took plant into fruting mode as spur formation is fast in sunny area along with implementing some prunning techniques for making fruit spurs in combination. Second and biggest hurdle was to manage moisture level in soil as irrigation was not available. We used grass mulching technique for retaining moisture in soil .We used all the grass of full year for mulching.U can imagine what a dry grass mulch of almost half to one feet can do..But in this journey of our, we lost 40 plants in year 2018 due to fire broke out from nearby forest area and reached upto this orchard. This was very painful time But we did not lost hope. This year we again planted seedling in the place of lost plants and in between to make the density more closer. We harvested first crop half red variety on July 8th last year and 12th july in this year. This year we got 1000/- for 2 layer box for 10 boxes.
As far as fertilizer is concerend this year we used 15:15:15 and some urea in this orchard. No pesticide / fungicide / insecticide used. In the coming years we are planning to make this 250 plant orchard with irrigation facilities as we are of thinking that irrigation on this sun faced land can create some amazing things. We were not having any knowledge when we started this neither we are an expert now .We are trying to learn new things and trying to implement the same in our orchards in our own way to get results. Although we are not very regular in this orchard and are away due to job/ assignment. Yet we try to do the orchard activities when we get time or labour. Jus imagine what a regular orchardist can achieve if he/ she works with dedication passion and right techniques.
